Leah’s leap to financial freedom
After undergoing ankle surgery in 2021, Leah faced a challenging period of recovery and intensive physiotherapy that left her unable to work. Determined to regain her independence and financial freedom, she reached out to Disability Employment Services (DES) with the goal of moving from Centrelink and rejoining the workforce.
With the dedicated support of AimBig, Leah began her journey by completing a Certificate III in Business Administration. Her first step back into employment was a casual role at Maranoa Containers for Change, which helped her rebuild confidence and gain valuable experience. She soon transitioned into a part-time administration role at Vertech, working three days a week.
As Leah’s skills and confidence grew, so did her ambition. With guidance from her AimBig Job Coach, Marie, Leah began exploring full-time opportunities that aligned with her strengths and lifestyle. Her persistence paid off and she proudly secured a full-time position at Westpac Bank!
This milestone marked a major turning point: Leah was able to take herself off Centrelink for the first time, achieving the financial independence she had long envisioned. But her success didn’t stop there. Alongside her new career, Leah launched her own nail technician business, operating from her home and turning a personal passion into a thriving and growing side hustle.
AimBig has been by Leah’s side throughout the journey – helping her find suitable roles, supporting her entrepreneurial journey (even modeling for her nail designs!), and assisting with workplace documentation.
To celebrate her achievements, Leah is treating herself and her mum to a well-deserved cruise on the Great Barrier Reef. She’s now exploring options to secure her own rental and expand her business further. Leah is proud of the career she’s built and the freedom it’s given her – and so are we!
