Meet the A Team – Zoe

In our latest of our staff series, we’ll continue to introduce you to some of our fantastic team members at AimBig Employment. Within this article, we’ll introduce you to Zoe, one of our excellent Job Coaches in the Orange area of NSW. Everyone, meet Zoe!

Why did you choose to work in Employment Services?

I am studying community mental health and wanted to use my experience in recruitment to support people in my community living with disability.

What does a day in the life of your role look like?

I am a team player, so I jump in and get my Orange participants supported with referrals, goal setting and helping address barriers. Then I check in with my leader to see how else I can support my team. I also get to visit employers and community supports services sharing the amazing mission, vision and valises of AimBig.

What do you love about your role?

Getting to support my participants and finding opportunities/roles that they can thrive in. I love advocating for them with employers and educating employers on how to support people living with disabilities further.

Can you recall a time when you helped a participant?

My very first placement was an Indigenous partisan who was very disconnected from his community and support system. He was feeling alone and isolated after ending up in a mental health unit. We worked together and I got him connected with a men’s walking group. We also found some great suppers in his community and even a yarning circle. He secured a role assisting as an elder in the local courthouse. He shared with me that he felt like he had a purpose again and that’s when I knew this is the right job for me!

What is a fun fact about yourself that people may not know?

I started playing women’s rugby this year and volunteer for WayAhead co facilitating an anxiety support group.
