A Role with Heart at the RSPCA for Melissa
The feelings you experience while being unemployed can be incredibly tough. Not knowing when you are going to find your next role sometimes results in feelings of uncertainty, inadequacy and ultimately loneliness. This is why when we heard about Melissa’s story, we were even more impressed with what she has achieved.
When Melissa, a participant who had been unemployed for a long period of time, came into AimBig, we understood that she was finding things tough. She had recently been hired for a role at a takeaway shop that ended abruptly after five weeks through no fault of her own.
The impact of losing a job can have devastating effects on a person’s confidence and it can make getting back out there even harder to do. However despite this, Melissa was able to pick herself back up again and determinedly put herself forward for new roles.
A supervisor position at the RSPCA Op Shop became available and Melissa put her hand up. A true testament to her, she was successful in securing the role! Melissa had experienced some challenges with her mental health as well as barriers when it came to transport access enabling her to get to work. However despite this, she has managed to overcome the setbacks and is now thriving as the supervisor at the RSPCA Op Shop.
Melissa is also now networking with other community organisations connecting her with people from all areas. She has said that she couldn’t have done this without the support of her AimBig job coach, Jasminka who has been there throughout the entire process.
This result has changed Melissa’s life and has given her the confidence and stability to live her best life. She is incredibly committed to her role and is keen to give back to others to help them get back on track. We are so proud of Melissa and everything that she has done. Her resilience and determination is admirable and what she has overcome is a huge feat.
