Proof that Persistence Pays Off with Adrian
Dealing with setbacks is part of everyday life, but it really takes a lot of willpower to push through and know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This is how AimBig participant Adrian was able to keep going, knowing that things were eventually going to work out.
Adrian had experienced some challenges including battles with both his physical and mental health. In addition to this, he was also responsible for providing care for his family members. Given this, he sometimes found it hard to believe he would be able to commit to a role permanently and struggled to secure a role for 3 years.
Adrian started working with AimBig Job Coach, Leanne in March 2023. He had shared his preferred industry, which included administration within the health industry. His long-term goal was to return to TAFE to complete his Certificate IV in community services or mental health. However, he knew the importance of focusing on taking one day at a time.
No matter what, Adrian continued to go about his day with a smile on his face. He was always polite and patient, understanding and respecting the process.
Adrian and Leanne set to work, and together they developed multiple resumes for the varied range of industries he was interested in. He also managed to regain his driver’s license which increased his independence and confidence exponentially. With these notches added to his belt, Adrian proactively applied for roles and was feeling motivated to move forward. At the same time, Leanne was promoting Adrian to prospective employers and continued to review and guide him on where he could search for opportunities.
After submitting a tailored cover letter and job application to the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), Adrian was successful in gaining an interview. Leanne helped coach him in interview techniques to ensure he was prepared for the interview process.
Then sadly Adrian was exited from the employment program, however he was committed to AimBig and wanted to register with the Kilkenny office. Adrian said that he had built a rapport with Leanne and that he had felt that he was receiving quality service. Leanne and Adrian persevered, and continued to focus on the small wins, the progress he’d made in his job search, and his continued effort.
Then finally, all that hard work and perseverance paid off! Adrian heard back from Services SA and commenced his new position as a Data Entry employee. And we are delighted to share that he has been in this role for over a year now!
Adrian has found a solid work-life balance and is really enjoying his new role. As an individual he has rediscovered his love for music and has grown into a young man who is full of life, confident, exudes positivity and has a very happy mind and heart. He is grateful for how far he has come and appreciates just how much of a journey he has been on to get here.
We’re so proud of Adrian and all that he has achieved. He continues to keep in touch with Leanne to let her know that all is well. Adrian’s story goes to show the importance of just chipping away and knowing that eventually all your hard work is going to pay off. Well done, Adrian!
