Volunteer your time for someone with disability

There’s nothing quite like the feeling you get from knowing you’ve done something for someone else. Volunteering is an important part of life. It’s not just about the benefits we get from volunteering but also what we can do to help others.

The International Day of People with Disability is on December 3 to celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disabilities and to raise awareness about the need for respect and equality for all people.

One way to celebrate the day is to volunteer your time to help someone with disability. You get to help someone, you can make friends, and you can improve your skills in a field that interests you. It is also an opportunity for our community to make positive changes to the lives of 4.4 million Australians with disability.

Volunteering is a great way to help people with disabilities. It’s a chance for them to learn new skills and gain independence. Volunteering also benefits people without disabilities to learn about the challenges faced by people with disabilities and work together to find solutions through challenging stereotypes, breaking down barriers and encouraging inclusive attitudes and behaviours.

As an organisation, AimBig employees have a dedicated day a year where they can volunteer their time to a cause that is meaningful to them or the organisation.

There are many websites available to easily search in your state for volunteering opportunities including SEEK Volunteer and Go Volunteer – a quick search of “volunteer to help people with disabilities” will bring up many others.

So this, Saturday, celebrate the International Day of Disability by volunteering your time for someone with disability and make a real difference in their life.
