In this edition of Meet The Team, we’ll introduce you to Phillip, one of our Regional Managers based in Toowoomba, QLD. Everyone, meet Phillip!

Why did you choose to work in Employment Services?

The ability to change lives quite literally through empowerment and supporting into employment.

What does a day in the life of your role look like?

Supporting the team in Darling Downs by providing data, removing barriers and problem solving with a solution focus.

Can you recall a time when you helped a participant?

One day when I was previously a Team Leader, a participant phoned me to say goodbye. I could tell by the way he was speaking, that this was not a normal conversation. He had been unemployed for a long time and had suffered from multiple medical conditions. After knowing him for a long period of time, I could tell the way he was speaking was very out of character and quite unusual. We continued our conversation and I listened and supported him as best I could. After the conversation, I knew I had to do something.  After being unable to get in touch with my managers, I contacted emergency services and got the police and ambulance to attend his home. This quite literally saved his life. The next time I saw the client he was so grateful for what I had done to help him. We continued to work with him and secured him a cleaning role with reliable employment and above average pay, no experience required. He remained in this employment for some time and other career opportunities opened up for him. From there, he went into a government cleaning contract. This really shows what we do matters! Sometimes we are all these people have and we need to engage them.

What do you love about your role?

Knowing that what we do means something.

What is a fun fact about yourself that people may not know?

Huge fan of Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson
