Meet the A Team – Kieren

In our latest of our staff series, we’ll be introducing you to some of the lovely staff that work at AimBig Employment. Within this article, we’ll introduce you to Kieren, one of our Job coaches in Roma, QLD. Everyone, meet Kieren!

Why did you choose to work in Employment Services?

For the opportunity to help others re-enter the workforce, where I once struggled myself.

What does a day in the life of your role look like?

Each day brings something new. New participants, employment opportunities, skills, knowledge, and marketing opportunities as well. In a standard day, we kick off with a group focus meeting to discuss any good news stories we may have, and we often do activities to help build great connections and rapport with staff across all sites. After that my workday starts, my focus is on commencing participants and tailoring a job plan which is suitable for their capabilities. Then the fun part starts where I get to learn about my participants. What their interests and hobbies are, what type or work they would like and all about their goals and how I can help to reach them. Whether this be with writing a resume, providing courses to builds their work skills, preparing participants for interviews and arranging job opportunities for them. After I get someone in employment, I stay in contact each fortnight and assist them where needed and guide them to help in keeping them in long term sustainable employment.

Can you recall a time when you helped a participant?

A current participant with multiple barriers to employment was having difficulties finding suitable employment with a role empathic to her needs and personal situation. I was able to reach out to one of my employers and discuss her situation and get the participant a paid trial run in a casual position as a cleaner. The trial run went well, and the participant was hired and commenced employment immediately. Prior to registering with AimBig employment, this participant had been in and out of employment for some time and not able to maintain steady employment. It has now been 3 and a half months and I’m happy to say she is still in that role and has been promoted to Head Cleaner and she could not be happier. The participant often tells me how happy she is in this role and thanks me every appointment for thinking of her for the role. Hearing how happy they are with their work, the employer, and the owners of the hotel, makes this job all the worthwhile.

What do you love about your role?

I love the sheer excitement and joy I can bring to people’s lives by getting them into the right role for them.

What is a fun fact about yourself that people may not know?

I am a job coach by day and mixed media artist at night, with my main focus on my culture and creating Contemporary Aboriginal Art.

If you’d like one of our outstanding job coaches like Kieren to work with you to meet your goals, get in touch with AimBig here.
