Meet the a team – Kellie
In our latest of our staff series, we’ll be introducing you to some of the fantastic faces at AimBig Employment. In this article, we met up with Kellie, our Head of Customer and Innovation. Kellie has been with AimBig Employment for almost 4 years and is based in Adelaide.
Why did you choose to work in employment services?
Through recommendation, I found myself in Employment Services after working in local government and as an Executive Assistant for quite some time. Almost a decade later, I have such a great passion for our industry and the positive impact we have on our greater society.
What does a day in the life of your role look like?
You will find me leading our wonderful customer contact centre in Adelaide. I work as part of our Senior Leadership Team and focus on leading communication and customer engagement strategies to influence ongoing development of our customer-centric culture at AimBig. We monitor and manage feedback to celebrate the amazing work of our service delivery division and identify areas for continuous improvement.
My moto is “the customer experience will never exceed the employee experience”. Our people and customers remain at the core of my decision making as Head of Customer & Innovation – what a privilege!
You’ve worked across a few different roles within AimBig. Do you have any stories you can share about supporting someone to find a job they loved?
“Joy” will always be my most memorable experience in Employment Services.
The reality is that my coaching and support changed her life. A widow and mother of two with little hope for her future, on the brink of losing her home due to financial demands. Joy and I engaged in study and upskilling, financial counselling and we purchased clothing and boosted her confidence with a cool new hair cut! Through intensive engagement and support over 12 months, Joy gained her first job in 8 years – a Support Worker in Aged Care. She developed new networks and even started participating in after-work activities.
Joy gained purpose, a sense of belonging and hope for her future. Her first small pay, she spent it on purchasing a bunch of flowers and some chocolates to give me. Her letter of ‘thanks’ bought me to tears.
Joy needed me at this point in her life and I didn’t know at the time, but my experience with Joy changed my whole perspective on the impact we have in our industry. We are hero’s without capes!
What’s something people may not know about you?
My ancestors settled in Adelaide in the early 1800’s and were heavily involved in the colonisation of South Australia, Western Australia and New Zealand.
Hutt Street in Adelaide carries our name, as does the Hutt River and the cities of Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt in New Zealand. The Hutt River, South Australia and the Hutt River and Hutt Lagoon in Western Australia were also named after our family.
