Meet the A Team – Hannah
In our latest of our staff series, we’ll continue to introduce you to some of our wonderful team members at AimBig Employment. Within this article, we’ll introduce you to Hannah, one of our fantastic Job Coaches in the Mayfield area of NSW. Everyone, meet Hannah!
Why did you choose to work in Employment Services?
I was always somewhat curious about the industry and thought it was something I’d be good at. I cam from hospitality management and when the restaurant I was working for closed down, one of my regular customers recommended me for a job with her employer (another provider) – I’ve been hooked ever since!
It’s a really good way to use my people skills and life experience to really make a difference in people’s lives. Having now done both JobActive and DES I can definitely say DES is where I belong!
What does a day in the life of your role look like?
No two days are the same here! I love that about this role, it really keeps me on my toes, I could never get bored. A ‘typical’ day for me is a bit of a mixed bag, some appointments, some community engagement, some marketing, claims chasing and PPS. Plus all the little things we’re constantly doing in the background to get our Participants where they want to be.
What do you love about your role?
I love being a part of that “I got the job!” moment for my Participants, I love being a positive influence in their lives and helping people to achieve their goals.
I also love that I am always on the go as I thrive in that sort of environment. And compared to the hours I used to work in Hospitality, 9-5 is a dream!
Can you recall a time when you helped a participant?
I recently helped a volunteer participant of mine into their dream job as a mail sorter. Fred came to me at the age of 60, with Autism and complex mental health problems, also legally blind and never having worked before. I found a local employer who was willing to give Fred a chance and he is now 6 weeks into the role and going great
What is a fun fact about yourself that people may not know?
I’m a huge country music fan! Also a mad ‘horse girl’ and used to compete in equestrian events.
