Meet The A Team – Colin

In our latest of our staff series, we’ll be introducing you to some of the fantastic faces at AimBig Employment. In this article, we chatted to Colin who heads up the Western Sydney team as Area Manager.

Why did you choose to work in employment services?

I commenced into employment services in rural NSW in 2014 as I wanted to make a difference within the local community for those that needed assistance to gain employment. Jobs can be hard to secure in small communities, and I knew that I would make a positive impact in changing people’s lives due to past lived experiences of unemployment and not having any assistance available.

What does a day in the life of your role look like?

No two days are the same in my role!

One day can be attending meetings and the next can be out on the road visiting employers or engaging with our local communities. My role is to support and guide my team who in turn provide support and assistance to our customers. This helps identify and pursue each individual’s path towards sustainable and meaningful employment.

Helping your team to support people into meaningful employment would give you some fantastic stories. What story comes to mind when you think about a time a participant found a fantastic job?

A young man came to AimBig in search of suitable employment.

Participant had prior experience as a traffic controller but due to financial constraints was unable to renew his qualifications which had expired. AimBig provided assistance to renew the required tickets to allow him to return to the industry which he enjoyed working in.

I then reached out to a few old contacts and discussed participant’s experience and newly renewed qualifications and arranged for participant to attend an interview / induction.

Participant was successful at the interview and was able to commence employment the very next week. Participant is now working and enjoying the role.

What’s something people may not know about you?

I am an avid motorsports fan and love a good adrenaline rush in anything fast and loud.

I love going fast and sideways on a race track!
