Matthew’s Mental Health Milestone
Workplaces have come a long way in terms of mental health awareness over the past decade with companies making more of a concerted effort to ensure all employees feel safe and included. This has been very much the case with our participant, Matthew and his current employer Adecco in St Albans.
Matthew came to AimBig after his anxiety and depression had been impacting his ability to maintain employment and sadly, his symptoms became more overwhelming when he was not working. Due to Matthew’s mental health illness, he can start to panic if there has not been effective communication regarding a situation.
Matthew has since started working in a warehouse with a range of different duties each day such as cleaning, putting stock away, using the scissor lift and other general warehouse duties.
AimBig Job Coach Michelle worked closely with Matthew’s employer Adecco by providing him direct access to mental health support, as well as built rapport with key members in the human resources team. In addition to this, Michelle regularly contacted Matthew to remind him that he has support.
In addition to this, Michelle has been helping Matthew to overcome some barriers and he has been enrolled into her ongoing support program to help maintain his mental health and wellbeing.
Adecco have been a wonderful employer that understands Matthew’s mental health challenges mean there is certain support that needs to be in place. Matthew sometimes requires time off and so needs an employer who will be understanding of this.
Michelle from AimBig regularly meets with Matthew’s employer from Adecco to discuss his safety assessment and ensuring that Matthew feels safe. Lochlan, Matthew’s manager, has provided exceptional feedback and Matthew is so happy working there.
Next up, one of Matthew’s goals is to secure a permanent position with Adecco. And Michelle will be there to support him every step of the way.
