Empowering Women Through Employment: AimBig’s Women in Work Showcase

In October, AimBig Employment hosted the Women in Work Employer Roadshow in Mackay, offering local women an inspiring platform to connect with potential employers. Marcella Romero, founder and CEO, opened the event with an empowering message, encouraging women to re-enter the workforce with confidence. Supported by the dedicated Mackay team, the aim was to help local women get back on track and excited about their new career pathways.

A bus was organised through the employment fund and participants were picked up at 9 am from Mt Pleasant and transported to the event, which ran until 2:30 pm. Attendees were encouraged to bring their resumes and dress to impress, engaging in valuable face-to-face interactions with employers actively hiring. The Work Ready Roadshow gave women a unique opportunity to explore various employment prospects and build connections. Employers visited were:

• Magpies Sporting Club
• Nurses Next Door
• Canelands Shopping Centre
• Officeworks
• Red Rooster

To prepare for the roadshow, two participants were also put through accredited modules in Customer Service, Food & Beverage Essentials the week prior, paid through the Employment Fund. This initiative was a direct response to a request from the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to prioritise female job seekers in both job placements and Employment Fund allocation. The Mackay team took this direction on board, creating the first Women in Work Roadshow. Each participant left with a strong sense of their next steps, having applied for two or more employers. In addition to employment opportunities, the event also supported a meaningful cause, raising awareness and funds for the McGrath Foundation. AimBig Employment’s purpose of empowering lives together, continues to make a real difference in the local Mackay community.
